Rahman's song on Nokia's new smartphone

The company has high hopes for N91 model
 
CHENNAI: Music director A.R. Rahman's prayer for a poverty-free world through his English single "Pray for me, brother" made a debut on mobile manufacturing giant Nokia's new smartphone N91 on Friday.
 
Mr. Rahman and the song's lyricist BlaaZe, whom he has collaborated in a few of his films, were present at the launch of the smartphone at a five-star hotel in the city. The United Nations ambassador for the "Stop TB Millennium campaign" said he was glad that Nokia had come forward to distribute the song that was produced by his label KM Musiq. In a brief interaction with the media, Mr. Rahman said he had welcomed digital distribution of music since it was the future.
 
He said when he used his laptop, he too visited websites where music downloads are free. "It is undeniable that the music industry has suffered heavily in recent years because of illegal downloads. However with the launch of smartphones like these, I believe legal downloads will become popular."
 
Nokia India's Gautam Advani said Nokia N91 featured "digital rights management" system to ensure that the intellectual property rights of musicians were safeguarded. However to a question whether Nokia was looking at launching a portal where Indian music catalogues would be listed, all Mr. Advani would say was that "Nokia will be a constant player in the music ecosystem."
 
Seems like the Indian music lover will have to wait for our own `itunes' revolution but Mr. Advani promises major changes in the digital music scenario within next three months.
 
Nokia has high hopes for its N91 model.
