So what are the new things you have done recently?


I just recorded for a Pakistani composer Rajendra salil. The film
was a hit film in Pakistan called `Daku hasina', which is now being
dubbed in Hindi. I sang a duet with Purniam. It was a lovely number.
The lyrics were by Navrang Bharati. I also did a solo for him, which
was utterly beautiful. It was really very satisfying. The alaaps
were very beautiful.


You've recently sung for Bhappi Lahiri?


I sang a duet with Kunal Ganjawalla for Bhappi Lahiri. The film
was `Agreement'. Abother film I sang for is `Thodi masti thodi yaari
thoda maal'. The composer was Rajesh and I sang with Shaan. Another
one was a song with Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik myself and another boy—
it was a party song.


How well have you settled here?


After Yuva and Kisna I've kind of been accepted. Yuva's number
became my identity. I am happy to say that almost everything I have
sung has become a hit.


What did you enjoy the most?


I love singing for AR Rahman and in Swades there was a bhajan which
I sang' which was very lovely. The irony is that it had Shahrukh, it
was composed by AR Rahman and written by Javed Akhtar all three are
Muslims and the song was on Ram lila. It was much appreciated. And
it was a bhajan.


The specialty of this song was that it was sung in a hotel room in
Panchgani and not in a studio. The shooting was happening in
Panchgani and Rahman had come there to make a scratch recording of
the song. We were told that he'd make a scratch then the song would
be finalized music would be added and then the final recording would
be done but the scratch was so good, imagine 15 to 20 people were
sitting in a hotel room, it was not a sound proof room. Rahman
played the keyboard. Vijay Prakash gave the male voice Ashutosh
Gowarikar did the part of Ravana and the scratch was so good that it
was used as the final song. Rahman said that the emotion expressed
might be lost if redone.


Singing for Rahman is a pleasure. He really is a pleasure to work
with. After Kisna song for which I am thankful to Subhash Ghai, I
find several music directors are calling me and making me sing for
them. I've just sung for Aannd Milind. MM Kreem, Himesh Reshamiya.
For MM Kreem I have just sung in Kasak, which has Lucky Ali and
Meera from Pakistan. I've sung the title song. Then I've sing two
songs for Shahrukh's Paheli and another for Tanuja Chandra's
untitled next film .All for MM Kreem he is a very good composer. I'm
singing for several others too.
