I know how albums come and go in recent times and how we miss that certain AR gem like say, five years back. Forget the big banners, even a JOK is nowhere as close as RHYTHM.
The certain ZINg is missing. so when Rajni joins hands with Shankar and gets ARR on board...nothing short of magic is expected. So is SIVAJI songs magic or not...well, too early to declare that. But for me, so far in just a couple of listening, the album has delivered to an extent. First of all, I know not many of ppl dig the ORU KOODAI SUNLIGHT track for whatever it is. But for me, I just cannot stop listening to it. Sure it starts off loud and weird, but the loop is infectious and has me hooked. One great experimentation from Rahman and it sticks! And then the BOSS theme track...this is one kick ass track too. So put in the STYLE track and the THEME track and we have a soundtrack or atleast a background score that is worth the hype. Afterall with Rajini, one cannot expect a fast track which cannot be given justice to. But surely Rahman can go wild with the BGM and that I am sure he will. Afterall this is better than someone going 'BAASHA BAASHA BAASHA'. Time to move on. and if it means HIP HOP and RAGAE, so be it. Then you have the Rahmanesque melody Sahana..sung by Udit in the original version and then a sad version in the voice of Vijay yesudas. Surely wish it was Yesudas himself in that, but I guess both Rahman and the listeners have to settle in for the younger shade of that voice. Then we have SPB getting up the gear for what could be the typical Rajini opening track - Balleilaka. And SPB gives it his best and surely it is one great track. Marevellous and surely one of the best Rajini openers. And one helluva track, that with a little mix it could just be a terrific dance track too. I am already toyin with the idea. He he! So there you go..one melodious track, one Rajini opener that Rajini fans can not complain of, two kick ass theme tracks and I think that should do the trick! so what we are left now with is the Rahman duet ATHIRADEE which I still really need to get hooked to, and then the VAAJI VAAJI track which definitely is the weakest link in the album. Which means, those who already took a liking for the VAAJI track, guess what, the rest of the album is much better! So that leaves us back to the basic question. Has the Shankar - Rahman duo done magic again....hmm, well definitely not in the league of BOYS but this is certain to give the other SHANKAR-RAHMAN combinations a run for its money. but for now, let SIVAJI come on its own....in STYLE that is!
