Hi all,

Radio Mirchi Chennai aired an interview of ARR to celebrate ARR's Filmfare for
Sillunu Oru Kadhal (SOK).... I tuned in a bit late, so I must have missed about
2-3 questions... The interview was good, though there were very few
questions... And, the way ARR said "Radio Mirchi.. Idhu sema hot-tu Machi" (the
slogan of Radio Mirchi in chennai) was too gud!! A kind of mischievous tone in
his voice whn he said that slogan... it was nice!!!

I have typed this down from my memory, there might be inaccuracies, though the
overall meaning might be conveyed!

How do you feel about your recent Filmfare award in tamil?
I entered the field through tamil movies, 15 yrs back. A whole generation has
changed, lots of new music directors have come up and are doing good music. It
is really heartening to see the tamil people still supporting me. Whatever
accolades I get, this award is really spl for me.

About SOK?
I had composed Munbe Vaa first… And, then the movie went through lot of
problems – including change of producer, after which Surya himself came forward
to produce it. During this tough time, the thing which kept everyone going was
Munbe Vaa. We all wanted to get this movie going so that this number is
released!!

About Shreya Ghosal who won the award for this song?
She has already made her mark with her beautiful voice. I was surprised with
how fast she picked up the song, though she didn’t know tamil. She learnt it
pretty fast, and the diction and pronunciation were almost perfect, right from
the start.

Fav song in sivaji?
I have to put my heart in to all the songs I compose, only then they will have
a life. So, I love all songs. But my wife’s fav is “adhiradikkaaran”.

About working in the night?
It is just a habit, which I picked up. It is calm and peaceful during the
night, just like in the song “Silent night” (sings “Silent night”, the famous
carol song)(chuckes)
It is not that I work only during the nights, I sometimes work during the day
too.

Your inspiration?
Music has to come from the heart. A pure heart gives pure music. (***Something
to that effect, I do not remember the exact words***)

Future plans?
I’ve just started my own label. It is a big step forward for me. I can do what
is “my music” without any constraints!

When I think of ARR, I think of hi “Energy level”. How do u maintain your high
energy level?
Good question, actually. It is not that I am always energetic. I am ‘down’
sometimes, when a lot of effort goes waste, as some of my music doesn’t get the
recognition it deserves. Then someone calls up and says “I loved that
particular song”, that is a big boost. Things like these are what keep me
going!

About International projects?
All thanks to God, I got international offers, which are not easy to get,
especially for us Indians. I have worked for LOTR stage show which was received
well. I attribute everything to God.
I had to make some sacrifices, miss out on a few tamil and hindi movies too...

When we think of Independence day, we are immediately reminded of your Vande
Mataram. What are you doing for this 60th year of independence?
We are launching the DVD of Jana Gana Mana, which has tracks performed by
reputed musicians and singers of India. This is our tribute to the nation
during the 60th year of independence.

If anyone managed to catch the few questions that i missed, please add them.....

Cheers,
Aravind
