Kailash Kher is flying high - international musicians seem to be bowled over
by his vocal skills. While Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) struck a deal with the
singer, world renowned DJ Paul Oakenfold is next in queue.
The DJ and producer who has worked with the likes of Brittany Murphy, Madonna
and others performed in May this year in the city.
During his stay, the DJ apparently was simultaneously scouting for an
unconventional Indian vocalist for his next album and he chanced upon Kailash
Kher.
“Paul called my agency and got in touch with a friend of mine. He was looking
for a rustic Indian voice and after listening to a couple of singers, he heard
my track ‘Ya Rabba’ (Salaam-E-Ishq) which he really liked.
He then went to my site and heard a couple of other tracks of mine and zeroed
in on me,” says an overwhelmed Kailash, who is currently on tour.
The DJ is also apparently planning to mix some of Kailash’s tracks including
‘Teri Deewani’. “I didn’t know who he was till someone told me he is very big
and has worked with a lot of big international musicians,” he says adding that
he might meet the musician when he’s in the US in November.
“We are both traveling and it becomes very difficult to catch up. Let’s see
how it goes,” he says. Kailash is also planning some project —with AR Rahman.
“It’s something interesting but I cannot reveal anything till it’s finalised.”
