The Program was titled as Ulaga Thamizhan - A.R. Rahman ( meaning World Renowned Tamilian - A.R.Rahman ) . *Uma :-* You have become a World Renowned Artist with the announcement of Roja in Time's Favourite List *ARR :- ( *Smilingly ) YOu are placing a lot of weight on my head. There have been a lot of hardships faced for achieving this, a way filled with thorns Uma :- How did it all start with Roja ?. ARR :- Well, Roja was really a Blessing of God. I didn't want to do films after that. So I wanted to give my best for Roja. Uma :- What type of music excites you ?. ARR :- Any sort of music is exciting to me. I do not hear my own music at times. Uma :- Your recent hit has been Shivaji. Pls share your experiences on working with Rajni Sir, Shankar for Shivaji ARR :- The Team of Rajni, Shankar has been very energetic. Shankar wanted me to go to the extreme high energy level. Especially for Style Song, he wanted some masala type to be added also, and thats where the style bit came into picture Uma :- Your music for Rajni Sir is different . How does it vary ARR :- For Rajni Fans, they need high energy levels. Hence for Rajni Film, we cannot have a song like Theendai ( he sings ) ( En Swasa Katre ) Uma :- How has been your experience for ATM with Vijay ?? ARR :- The Director was clear in saying that he wanted Kuthu Songs. I respect Vijay's audience, and the way it works But you can find out that Nee Maryln Monroe song would create a sort of seduction in all of you ARR :- I am against using Vulgar Issues in Music. Music should not create headache. I have a lot of praises for Mani Sir ( Maniratnam ) . His movies are Larger than Life, and he takes Cinema to the next extent. His aim of Film Making is different , apart from making money. In Music there are either two answers ; One Good Music or Bad Music. No Mid Way. The Music for Shekhar Kapur's film Elizabeth - The Golden Age has sequences An Singer has to be swithced on immediately; Some have it; some do not. MAdhushre is a good singer. Voice is good; but She doesn;t know Tamil. For that matter, even TMS, Susheela, Janaki never knew Tamil, when they came to sing . Udit Narayanan has done a good job for singing Sahana Saral in Shivaji Munbe Vaa has been one of my favourites. I had given 6 tunes to Director Krishna ( Director ; Jillenu Oru Kadhal ) , but he selected this tune, although I told him that it was sorrowful. Vaali sir came up with 5 Pallavis,and finally I suggested that we could have it as Munbe Vaa. Vaali Sir would prefer to write lyrics starting with Maa, when weboth work together. MUnbe Vaa was also liked by Mani Sir I cannot sing all songs in the same pitch. it all varies. Vellai Pookal is a low pitch song, whereas some songs require a high pitch. I cannot sing like P.B.
