Taste of Indian music, fashion for US*

Live performances by some of India's leading singers and fashion shows by
two of the country's top designers will be the highlights of the annual
Bollywood Music and Fashion Awards show slated for Nov 17 in New Jersey.

Bollywood playback singers Kumar Sanu, Alisha Chinai, Kavita Krishnamurthy
and Sukhbir are to serenade the audience at the 5,000-capacity Trump Taj
Mahal Casino in Atlantic City.

Designers Manish Malhotra, Suneet Verma and Atlanta-based Sushma Patel will
showcase their latest collections. Twenty top models from India and the US
who will grace the catwalk including Aryan Vaid, the first Indian model to
won the Mr International award in 2000.

It is for the first time that Bollywood Group, a New York-based
entertainment events company, has combined the annual music and fashion
awards shows, started in 1999.

"Fashion and music have always been intertwined, and by combining the music
and fashion awards into one glamorous and entertaining evening, we are able
to celebrate the symbiotic relationship that the two have shared in Indian
cinema," said Kamal Dandona, chairman of the group.

Music awards categories include best music director, best male singer, best
female singer and best music video.

The five music directors shortlisted are *AR Rahman for Guru, *Himesh
Reshammiya for *Aap Ka Suroor*, Shankar Ehsaan Loy for *Kabhi Alvida Na
Kehna*, Pritam for *Dhoom 2* and Jatin Lalit for *Fanaa*.

Male singers vying for the award are Himesh Reshammiya, Sonu Nigam,
Sukhvinder Singh, Sukhbir and Shaan.

In the female category, shortlisted singers are Alisha Chinai, Sunidhi
Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal and Chinmayee Keerthi, the *maiya maiya* girl from *
Guru*.

Though the event is Bollywood-oriented, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Caribbean,
American and other international stars will also be there.

The organisers claim that more than 270 million people in over 90 countries
will view the show.
