It's anticipation time again. JA's music is going to release in less than two weeks. I admit, I am more nervous this time than excited. I try hard to not let over expectations or hype to set me up for disappointment with each major release of Rahman's. With Rahman's last two Hindi releases specifically (RDB and Guru), my initial reaction was one of disappointment. I had an audio fantasy in my mind of what the soundtrack "should" sound like, based on Rahmna's own discography. There's always the hope that the next soundtrack will hit my every wish and demand for what I want in a perfect soundtrack....but, as with all fantasies, it never comes to pass as it is imagined.
The other aspect is the fact Rahman throws us some surprises with each release......sounds, styles, accents that we don't anticipate. It makes for a very interesting time to digest these new elements, but then again, a part of me clings to what I wish the album would sound like. I have to be careful. My fantasy expectation for JA is for deep, haunting melodies that will send chills down my spine for weeks along with sharp, clear acoustic and ethnic scintillating sounds with warm chords and great harmonic, soothing, soulful soundscapes. Haha.....in my dreams...but for sure, I think I can expect that I will at the very least LIKE the new music because it's from Rahman and most probably LOVE at least one song. It's a historical film and Rahman has made some of his best music with these. The expectations are sky high for many for this soundtrack and that's kind of scary. I'm pretty sure Rahman worked hard for the music and created music suited for the film. Ashutosh and him have a great track record with Lagaan and Swades, so I'm not lacking confidence for a decent score. It's those darn expectations that keep creeping in. Regardless, the only way I'm going to be upset with this release is if I hear Blaaze rapping in any of the songs.....;) I'm going to just try and enjoy the release ride in the next couple of weeks and not have much presumptions.
