Dear Rahmaniacs, In continuation to my mail last week on Director Kadhir 's interview , here are the salient points of discussion that Raihana had with him yesterday on the show. Very Interesting
1. ARR & Kadhir used to discuss a ot of lyrics. ARR liked the lyrics " Oru Poiyavadhu Sol Kanne ' ( The song from Jodi ) . Actually, this lyrics was actually written for Kadhal Desam initially, but then was made for in Jodi. ARR used to like the lyric for the reason it stated that "atleast tell a lie, that I am loving you " . Kadhir had high respect for Kavignar Vaali, right from MGR Times. Vaali used to ask if all six songs would be given to him in Kadhalar dhinam , and all the six songs were great hit. The entire story was written in the form of the songs. ARR has always been very happy with Vaali. ARR + Director Kadhir + Kavignar VAali made a great team that time, and this continued for Kadhal Virus also. 2. How Dandiya song in Kadhalar Dhinam became a Super Hit ?. Kadhir was sharing a Genuine feeling with ARR, and wanted a tune which would reflect the feelings of a poor boy who goes to a metropolitan city like Mumbai for pursuing an MBA, and is interested in seeing a Dandiya dance. The feelings was composed superbly in that song. When ARR used to sing the Charanam of that song, he used to forget time. Many people ( youth ) used to ring Kadhir and discuss abt the lyricas of Nenaichapadi song and Dandiya Song from Kadhalar dhinam . 3. Kadhir has never learnt music. But he says that its more important to feel music, rather than just learn it. Music should be derived out of inspiration. List of Favourite Songs of Kadhir 1. SPB Song in Kadhal Virus - " Enthan Vaani Aadum " ; 2. Dhandiya Song - Kadhalar Dhinam 3. Ennai Kaanavillaye - Kadhal Desam 4. Uzhavan - Kangalil Enna eeramo Kadhir had very inspirational relationship with his parents. They loved him very much, and had been their motivation, inspiration. 4. How do you picturise ARR Songs ?. Its a big challenge picturising Songs. *People get attracted, only if the songs are picturised well, and the expectations of picturisation are very high for ARR Songs.* For eg :- The Song " Hello Doctor" in Kadhal Desam has been difficult to shoot. 40 people were tied to strings, and happen to be in a state of Coma in the song. The Dandiya song from Kadhalar Dhinam was very difficult to shoot. The song " MUsthafa Musthafa" was picturised for 2 1/2 days. The Song " Ennai Villai Azhage ' in Kadhalar dhinam was shot in Australia, as the producer wanted atleast one song to be shot abroad. *ARR liked the picturisarion of the song. *During those times, all lovers used to buy the CDs of Kadhalar Dhinam. 5. Kadhir says that every Director should have the following to make their film a big hit. i) Good Producer ii) Good Music Director iii) Good Lyric Writer iv) Good Camera Man *I have been blessed by ARR in my films. It was a great blessing for my life time. * ** 6. WHy didn't Kadhir change his style of directing films ?. I tried changing my style in Kadhal Virus, Uzhavan, but people didn;t accept it. Kadhalar Dhinam, Kadhal desam was liked by all. *ARR liked the film Uzhavan , and called him from South Africa, for congratulating him. * ** In Tamil Cinema, every director carries a stamp and style, and it becomes very difficult for him to cross that style, and try a new version. Kadhir is working with scripts that would cover wide areas now. 7. How you became a director ??. I used to draw pictures of Gods, Goddess, Actors in my home. My father used to feel that I coudl become an artist, and made me join Arts College. I started career as a designer, and has been associated with Directors like Bhagyaraj for Darling Darling, Balu Mahendra, Maniratnam ( Film Pagal Nilavu ) . " Film Making is nothing but Real Life". 8. List of ARR songs that Kadhir liked but not from his film Ennavalle - Kadhalan Ella Pughazum - Azhagiya Tamizh Magan KAdhir and Shankar used to feel jealous abt songs like Ennavalle not happening in Kadhalar Dhinam, and Musthafa not happening in Shankar's film. *UNFORGETTABLE INCIDENT WITH ARR * ** Almost majority or Kadhir;s life has been spent in the company of ARR. He used to come and sleep in front of ARR studios, thus waiting for a chance to meet ARR and get his time. Once , ARR was in Canada, for recording a song for Deepa Mehta's film. Kadhir wanted a song before the Puja of his film " Kadhalar Dhinam ". He called up Noel ( Manager of ARR ) , and confirmed with him the hotel, where ARR was staying. In Canada, he was unable to reach to ARR , as he didn;t spell the name of ARR properly. ( It was automated system in the hotel, and they couldn't connect to ARR because he was not getting the letters of ARR right ) . A full day went off on him trying to contact ARR through the phone, and ultimately, he called up Noel ( who was in India ), for getting the right spelling, and caught up with ARR with the right spelling, and thus came out the song ' Roja Roja ' for Kadhalar Dhinam. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Vithur <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Dec 1, 2007 3:41 PM Subject: RAHMANIA SHOW - DIRECTOR KADHIR 'S DISCUSSIONS To: [email protected] Dear Rahmaniacs, Hi. Yesterday, director Kadhir was sharing his thoughts on his experiences working with Rahmanji. Some salient points are here for your perusal. 1. Kadhir is used to do something new all the time. Either he introduces new actresses or heroes in his movies. His first movie was Idhayam , in which he introduced Actress Heera ( thiruda Thiruda Heroine ), and also introduced Prabhu Deva, Raju Sundaram in the same. He knew ARR right from Roja Fame, and was waiting for the right opportunity to get assosociated with our Guru . 2. After Idhayam, he was in search of a new Music Director for his new film Kadhal desam. His very first meeting with ARR, he started liking him. ARR was playing the guitar for the song Chinna Chinna Aasai & Kadhal Rojave ( Roja ) . Kadhir was impressed by these songs, that he decided and desperately wanted ARR for his movies. At that time, his salaray levels were very low, and he wanted to book ARR for his movies, by paying him some advanceof Rs. 10,000 /-. So he borrowed this money from his friend. The first story that was discussed was Kadhal Desam, though Uzhavan got released first. 3. All Kadhir's stories stem out of real happenings, which usually happen in every layman's life. All nomral life events spark his creativity towards making a film. How Uzhavan Happened ?? Kadhir was working as an Asst Director with Sivaji Films. At that time, Ramkumar ( Prabhu's elder brother; Sivaji's elder son ) approached him with a new story. He also wanted songs to be fresh. And Uzhavan happened, in which the songs were completely new and the BGM was fantastic. ( Kadhir liked the BGM more than the songs, and was excited praising about the same ). It was totally special for him. Getting ARR's date was very difficult, as every director wanted to Book ARR for their films. Kadhir was moving with ARR like his friend, and ARR used to ask Kadhir for poems everytime they met. 4. Kadhir always used to ask ARR for newer tunes, but was cautios not to tell that he wanted tunes like Roja etc , as ARR never liked talking abt one particular tune, which has already been composed, while composing a newer one. They had gone to Dargha, Dined so many tiems. But Kadhir always knew his limits, and never wanted to cross his limits in terms of friendship. 5. ARR was fond of Kadhir, which Kadhir attrbutes to God's Gift. More than being a professional, ARR was always friendly. Kadhir used to feel inspired seeing Rahman; thus seeing him as a role model 6. The same simplicity continues with ARR, as what he was at that time. Never does ARR talk abt his own laurels, awards, and never sleeps without getting the right sound. 7. As fasr as BGMs are concerned, Kadhir just screens the movie to Rahman, and ARR comes out with his scores, which are always liked by the particular Director. The BGms just flows out of ARR. ARR not onyl uses the Pallavi of the songs, but also the Charanam of the songs for his BGMs. The correct Blend is achieved in his BGMs, with that mushc of perfection. 8.
