                    After
months of deliberation and several high-profile meetings with top-notch
Bollywood actors, South film director S. Shankar has now roped in Tamil
superstar Rajinikanth for his ambitious film, Robot. Even months after
its release, his last pot boiler, Sivaji: The Boss featuring
Rajinikanth, continues to rule the box-office and that explains the
teaming up. A source close to the director informs, "He had narrated
the concept to Rajinikanth earlier and he was quite impressed with it.
Back then Shankar was in talks with Shah Rukh Khan."

SRK was
very keen on essaying the lead role and producing the film till
recently. Even Kareena Kapoor was being considered for a meaty role in
the film. But Khan and Shankar had some creative differences and that
led to the fallout.

Later Shankar, who has earlier made Jeans
and Nayak, was in talks with Aamir Khan. Apparently, Aamir had read the
script and was taking too much time to make up his mind. A source close
to the actor says, "Aamir was busy with Taare Zameen Par but he had
definitely, read the script. Shankar was also in a hurry to finalise
the cast, so that didn't materialise."

Robot revolves around a
megalomaniac scientist, who invents a robot and then runs into trouble
when his own creation threatens to rebel against him. The film touches
upon issues including evolution of man, curse of the industrial
revolution and technical progress that can lead to self-destruction.

When
quizzed about it, Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya arefuses to divulge
any details. She says, "Yes, Shankar and my father are in talks."
