If there ever was music that could move a mountain, cause a stone to shed tears, or align the planets, it would be Rahman's.
I have my JA CD on the way from Nehaflix, but couldn't help but tune into the net and listen in. This is by far musically and lyrically richest, most classically influenced and passionate/soulful soundtrack since Lagaan. If you liked Lagaan, Zubeidaa, 1947 Earth, Water, Meenaxi, you will love this soundtrack. Cannot determine global sound quality yet or crispness. Was the anguish of delay after delay, wait after wait worth it? YES...and much more! There is too much to digest in this soundtrack from one sit through. The songs are growers, but for me, because I'm a big fan of classical and strong melody, the soundtrack hit me like a ton of bricks.....in a good way! It way surpassed my expectations.......for once! For many, I think the songs will take time to sink in....they are situational and very niche in their styles.....Qawali, Bhajan, etc. But, man oh man, does Rahman's genius shine in this record!!!! I can see he put in a lot of work into this soundtrack......lots of detailed instrumentation, ornaments, so called "bells and whistles" that befit music for a period film. Nothing is overdone or out of place IMO. Haunting melodies and mindblowing arrangements and vocals that will stick to you like glue. WHAT A POWERHOUSE OF A SOUNDTRACK! Will post a full review once I get the actual CD and listen more. PLEASE BUY THE ORIGINAL CD AND CONVINCE EVERYONE AROUND YOU TO DO THE SAME! (Note....this post wasn't as "quick" as I thought!)
