/s1600-h/jodhaaakbar.jpg> SIGH!

Why am I starting with a sigh? Man what a wait that was! The music
release kept on postponing on and on and on as it would never reach the
hands of his beloved listeners. Then it was a royal launch! Jodhaa's
descendant releasing this magical cd. But then again delays after delays
die hard Rahmanics like me got soo fed up that we started talking about
other Rahman releases. But in between we got the taste of the songs from
youtube and man they ripped the heart out of us. They killed us. They
made us want for more and more and more like the Akshaya Paathiram which
is said that once u start taking rice from it it never stops even if you
ask it to stop! I wish Rahman was a Akshaya Paathiram, but no this
limitness of what he does is the specialty! The time he spends on each
song is the specialty. The care he takes on each song is the specialty,
he treates them even better than his own kids I suppose! He breathes
music and lets others experience his breathe through his music. Every
song says so much about him, his magnificent personality that I Idolize
and change myself everyday to be! How simple but yet how powerful! As if
the god of music is speaking through him, man how lucky I should be to
be sharing my lifetime with him and his music! Priceless!

But finally out of nowhere it arrived! I went crazy and excited and was
dancing around my room. I couldn't even listen to one song properly
because I was that hyper! Then finally I settled in and listened to
them. Speechless! simply Speechless!

My instant and ultimate favorite is In Lamhon! Sung by Sonu Nigam and
Madhushree and all the lyrics are by Javed Akhtar. Such a powerful love
duet, and an intense 6.38 minutes. From the lyrics to the extravagant
music and orchestration its such a unique piece. Let me take you through
it. It starts off with a deep beat along with a santoor adding some
beautiful flavor to it. Then slowly Sonu starts singing romantically.
Then slowly the song picks up into this intense musical battle scenario
starting with the cymbals, a deep male voice, some trumpets and other
metal wind instruments, very fast drums (Tabla too) and some crazy
violins at the back wow! crazy orchestration! I couldn't believe what I
was hearing. It was crazy! Then suddenly with a bang we get some jathis
by a male voice which again feels very intense. Very nice rendition of
the jathis. Then it stops with a bang of the cymbals, and Sonu Nigam
transforms form this romantic voice at the beginning to this powerful,
strong, commanding like voice which is accompanied some fantastic beats.
I absolutely love this part. Nice complementary by the deep drums. Your
heart pumps and gives you this extra energy listening to this part
starting from 2.10mins and wait it stops suddenly at 2.45 and starts off
again with the romantic music. Then another interlude started off with a
santoor and lead off by a sitar complimented by Navin's flute.Splendid!.
And here comes the angelic voice of Madhushree! I think this is one of
her best sung songs ever! Her voice nicely utilized and it feels so good
listening to her part especially when she sings "Ke hai prem aag men",
it felt i am being loved by Madhushree's voice! Wow..I am dumbfounded.
But wait...here comes the beautiful silence and stillness, Sonu sings
softly all alone with no instruments and sings:

Mere khwaboun ke is gulistaan mein, tumse hi to bahaar chaayee hai
[In my garden of dream, flowers have blossomed because of you]
Phooloun mein rang mere the lekin, inn mein khushboo tumhise aayi hai.
[The flowers had my colors, but they have fragnance because of you]

Fantastic! what else can I say! But then the silence is again crashes
with the intense musical battle which we heard at 2.10. Very nice
transition. And the song ends with what it started off with and a bit of
some flute. I should also mention the beauty of the line "Naghme hee
Naghme hain Jaagti, sortee fizaaon mein" which means "there are poems
in the ups and downs of the wind". But the best part is the line is
constructed with ascending notes that start from Naghme hee and goes
down and down and when the "Ishq hai" part comes it goes back up
touching the Naghme note and comes down to the lower note. Nice
complimentary to the lyrics and only class musician like ARR can
construct something like this! I absolutely adore this song! Fabulous
lyrics by Javed as well! This song will live for generations to come.

My 2nd Fav not that I am choosing or anything is Khwaja Meri Khwaja sung
by the maestro himself and a tribute to Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb-un-Nawaaz.
Its based on sufi music along with sufi and urdu words and it is a
qawwali. As usual for a qawaali the song starts off with Rahman doing a
short alap using a harmonium as the only instrument. Then the songs
starts off with some strings and it keeps on going while the song is
accompanied by claps and a tabla. Very typical sufi style song. The song
is decorated with svaras and alaps in between. As qawwali's are usually
are there are other males voices backing Rahman throughout the song. A
feel good song and very spiritual. I should also mention that Rahmans
voice is crisp and unique and suits the song well. A classic!

If you want to feel like a king on a throne or a king walking on a red
carpet among gizzilions of your citizens praising you and dancing for
you then you need to hear a taste of Azeem oh Shaan. Sung by Mohammed
Aslam, Bony Chakravarthy and another million voices as the chorus of the
song. It starts of with a trumpet like a call to the whole nation and
followed by drums, taikos and other percussion instruments. Very heart
pumping and gives you this ancient Royal feel. Then the chorus and the
main voices carry on the song forward and the heart pumping beats
following all through. The main instruments used in this song are the
percussions and the drums and the trumpet. But it is still very highly
orchestrated with different beat pitches and modulations and feels like
a million instruments being used. Something new is the use of the sound
of swords in between which adds more flavor to the song. A big kudos to
Sivamani for his rhythm work! This song simply energizes you, my morning
cup of coffee hereafter, way stronger than caffeine! Love it! I feel
like a king!

A song that seduces you with its simplicity is Jashn- E-Bahaara. Sung by
Javed Ali which is indeed a surprise. His voice is best used and suits
well than Kajraare. A surprise is the use of Oud as the main instrument
that compliments the singer. I think the best thing about this song is
its simplicity and the lyrics. I think this is the best feel good song
after Roobaru from Rang de Basanti. Midnight romance..thats what I call
this song!

Mann Mohana! What can I say. Its not everybody's cup of tea but I think
its the most complex song of the album. Sung by Bela Shende. Its slow
poison which is made like a Bhajan. very classical in its flavor and has
a sadness to it but you don't feel the sadness as the music is very
unique and classical and its by Rahman. Again very heavy orchestration
with violins and cellos and tablas. Bela Shende's voice is honey to the
ears. I think this song is very hard to sing not only because of its
classical quality but because of its intricate details and alankars. I
think a different flavor from the rest of the album and a song for the
night and again has a spiritual feel to it.

What can I say! This album is a Royal journey, a rich journey, a feel
good journey. Its a musical experience you don't wanna miss! In which
album will you find a Qawwali and a Bhajan and a romantic duet? In which
album will you find Oud mixed with violins and cellos and Taikos mixed
with trumpets? The music speaks the intricate and hard work Rahman has
put into this album to make it a classic for generations to come! Hail
Rahman! Hail for his Music! I feel on top of the World! hehehe

Jodhaa Akbar- The Music Emperor will always rule!
