Bombay, which is supposed to THE MECCA of every hopeful, has always been
the subject matter of all the filmmakers. In fact, the very term 'Bollywood'
gets its name derived from Bombay! Even as *Bombay To Bangkok* hit the
screens last week, *Bollywood Hungama* brings to you a series of
'Bombay/Mumbai-centric' movies which had the cinegoers either declaring the
movie as a bore or had them asking for more!

*Bombay*
This Mani Ratnam directed film, was amidst controversy since the day it was
released, because of the film's plot that depicted strong political
undercurrents. Its lead actors, Arvind Swamy and Manisha Koirala, became
national heart throbs after this film. On screen, Arvind and Manisha belong
to the Hindu and the Muslim communities respectively, eventually get married
to each other, totally against their parents' wishes and come to Bombay to
lead a peaceful life. But, as luck would have it, they get caught in the
infamous 1993 Hindu-Muslim riots. Even though this film was originally made
in Tamil, the dubbed version in Hindi was equally successful. A R Rahman
truly arrived with this film, so to say!
