STORY:Boy marries girl, people plot to get at them, boy beats all thevillains
and all ends well. Typical story except that the boy and girlhere are Akbar and
Jodhaa, so there's an excuse to splash a lot ofmoney on sets, elephants and
other things.
REVIEW: Great sets, nice costumes, fantastictechnical work, big fat elephants,
but WHY THE HELL DO YOU NEED 3 AND AHALF HOURS TO TELL ME THAT?!!!
JODHAA AKBAR has its moments, but its wayyy too long. It's not the3 and half
hour length, it's just that it is a 3 and half minutes kaplot pulled into 3 and
a half hours. A good deal of the film is spentwith Akbar and Jodhaa figuring
what's a good time to, umm, 'do it'. Abig, earth-shattering suspense bit is
included which I will talk about(but not reveal) at the end of this review. One
definite positive isthe casting. The big muscular villain with the fantastic
physique(BMVFP) is almost completely wasted. Sonu Soodcontinues getting screwed
by one and all, an art he has acquired greatexpertise in after AASHIQ BANAYA
AAPNE, YUVA etc.The action sequencesare good. The opening war is as good as
most Hollywood war sequences. Afight between Hrithik and BMVFP towards the end
isnot quite polished and smooth. And before I forget, there is no bigsuspense
in the film, was just trying to make the review interesting, since the film
offers very little by way of that.
Sorry.
BOTTOMLINE: Take a friend along who has seen the film so he/she can wake you up
when the good parts are on.
