MUMBAI: Taare Zameen Par, Chak De! India and Guru shared the spoils at the
53rd Fair One Filmfare Awards, picking up five trophies each at the
glittering awards ceremony on Saturday at Yashraj Studios. Shah Rukh's
underplayed portrayal of a hockey coach won him the Best Actor award for
Chak De! while Kareena's effervescent turn in Jab We Met landed her the Best
Actress trophy.

Taare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan's sensitive depiction of the ordeals of a
dyslexic child, won the two top awards of Best Film and Best Director . It
also mopped up Best Story (for Amole Gupte), Best Lyrics (Prasoon Joshi for
the heartrending Maa) and Critics Award for Best Actor for 11-year-old
moppet Darsheel Safary, who won the nation's heart with his portrayal of
Ishaan Awasthi.

Chak De! India, Yashraj's only successful film in 2007, won its director
Shimit Amin the Best Film in the Critics' Category. It also scored high in
the technical category by bagging the honours for Best Action (Rob Miller),
Best Editing (Amitabh Shukla) and Best Cinematography (Sudeep Chatterjee).
Mani Ratnam's Guru, loosely based on the life of Dhirubhai Ambani, picked up
five awards: while A R Rahman scored a double whammy with Best Music and
Best Background Score, the indefatigable Saroj Khan beat competitors Farah
Khan, Vaibhavi Merchant and Bosco-Caesar to pick up a trophy for Barso re
megha megha. It also won the Best Playback Singer (Female) trophy for singer
Shreya Ghoshal while art director Samir Chanda was awarded for recreating
the Mumbai of yore from where the film's leading man rose from the ranks to
become all-powerful .

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Irrfan Khan, Life In a Metro
