DISCLAIMER: Please do not interpret any of my comments below as being
anti ARR. I worhship the Boss and his music!

Happy for ARR and for us fans that he won the filmfare for both music
and BGM for Guru! There are no doubts that ARR's achievements are
award worthy!

However, I want to separate myself from the fan part of myself and
think about the relationship between ARR and filmfare. ARR has won
many filmfare awards, in fact the most out of anyone! No doubt, most
of these awards are deserving. Let's face it, his music is THE BEST
period overall. However, when it comes to the most recent Hindi
soundtracks, Guru and RDB, I'm not quite certain that they deserve to
be winners, from a purely musical and impactful standpoint.

2006 - RDB won - not only in filmfare, but in other award
ceremonies. Yes, RDB was a huge hit for movie and music. Was RDB
the best music of 2006? Not in my opinion. Omkara was the best.
Even ARR himself admitted that Omkara was his favorite. I think
Omkara won with the critics.

2007 - Guru won. Guru had some mindblowing songs, some of ARR's best
work, but it also had relatively mediocre numbers like Baazi Laga and
Ek Lo. IMO, the best soundtrack of 2007 was Taare Zameen Par with
Guru a very close second. Did Guru have the best BGM? Granted, it
was brilliant, but IMO, Eklavya had a better BGM score.

The question has to come up: Is filmfare biased towards Rahman?
Maybe. Does the filmfare award for best music really represent the
best album? Not always. It's the case with a lot of awards.

Many people have issues with filmfare in both directions. Yes, I
love it that ARR won two years in a row. As a fan, I couldn't be
more happy to see him recognized. Guru deserves to be recognized as
an outstanding soundtrack and the public response to it has been
superb. Albums are supposed to be awarded by votes, so I guess, Guru
won because the public demanded it. I'm thrilled. But, I'm not
exactly convinced that this was purely a gentry-elective process.
