Dear Rahmaniacs, Kailash Kher needs no introduction. His interview with Raihannaji on Rahmania is as below. From his very speech, it was very clear that he is a very pious, innocent God fearing singer.
"I started singing when I was 4 years old, though I havent learnt formally. I straight away started singing, and my father was surprised to see me singing. and then sombody suggested I should learn Indian Classical Music. Then when I was 13 years old, I was in 6th Class. That time, I left my house, for learning music ( against my parents wish). No one was supporting me at that time. I had to live alone. It was the interest towards music, which made me do all that. I have to earn and survive first, which kept me irregular for learning music. It was very dark for me at that time. I was not able to find a job also, and had to do lots of odd jobs for survival. I did my graduation all by myself. I have changed almost 14 Gurus, and I havent been regular with anyone. I learnt life more than music by that time. I am not a trained singer, and whatver I feel, I sing. When i used to sing in my childhood days, my voice was very soothing , but in between during the transition phase, it used to crack, and I used to feel that I cant sing, and many teachers used to tell me that I cant sing. It was very tough to go through such phases. We were in Delhi, and Delhi's music sense was not that much. You ( Raihannaji) was lucky that you were in Chennai. In Delhi, people used to ask me ' What are you doing ?". When I used to tell them " I sing". They used to ask me Singing is Ok, but what are you really doing ??.. I came to 2001 to Bombay to cut an album. But I was working for that without money. There were two musicians who were helping me. They were Naresh & Paresh. No money; so the speed was very slow. Someone heard my voice and they wanted to offer me TV JIngles. I have sung more than 600 Ads till now. My elder brother is an Advocate, younger sister doing Doctorate in History. Father is an Astrologer. My father used to say that this guy will make a name for himself , and he never clearly told which career. Inside me, there is a very intense philosopher, intense human being who believes in very very truth, purity, love and passion on what you do. I never understood that Bombay would be the hub for Bollywood and Film music. Somehow, i was unaware of all this. People started giving me Filmi music, after hearing my ad jingles. I came with an album in 2006, after I had entered film music. Before Mangal Pandey, I had sung ' Allah ke Bandhe" . This was from Arshad Warsi's movie " Waise Bhi Hota Hain". I got several awards for this movie. I came to see Rahman, because he wanted me to sing in Meenaxi ( the Background Score ) . he asked me to give him some ideas on the provoking songs for the Warriors from the Northern Side. Then I told him abt this tradition. Then he gave me the main title song of Mangal Pandey. This was an opportunity and co-incidence, that he called me for one, and I ended up doing five films for him, at the same time. *I adore him, I love him as a human being more than artiste, he is God's direct descendance. he is a gift to the earth, to this universe and spreading his lights * *through his aura. * Sufi Songs - I have been listening in my formative years to all big saints. They used to call Nirguni Bhajans . Rumi, Guru Nanak, Baba Fareed compositions . we used to listen to from the mouths of composers. My career started as a singer first. But otherwise, all my albums .. I have written, I have composed. Actually, I like composing and singing. Singing is the first passion. I dont do anything bad; I dont boose, I dont smoke; I dont eat external food.. When I go outside, I try to cook myself. I know very good cooking. Interests :- I cook. I write poems; observe people a lot , I also imitate people. ( do mimicry) Music ;- I love RAHMAN a lot. In Film direction, I like films with a message, like Chak De India. In south, I like Shankar, Mohanlalji, Rajinikanth. Mostly all the songs sung by Rahman I like. I love his Tamil songs like anything, though I dont know the language, but I can connect with them. It is his language, and he connects directly with God. I loved singing the song " Yeh Jo Desh hai tere" with ARR for swades. Mangal Mangal :- He called me inside the studio, and within 30 minutes, he asked me to sing that Mangala mangala bit with that aalap. Mangala Mangala, Yuhi Chala, then Lakeer, Dil Ne Jise apna Kaha, some parts in Kisna . Other than that Shankar Ehsan loy, Vishal Shekhar, Himesh . With Rahman, i have been doing lots of concerts. The best thing is that, I request him to join me in stage, and he joins me by shaking his hands. I BELIEVE IN TRUE LOVE TO HUMANITY, NOT TO HURT ANYONE 'S HEART. This is my philosophy in life. ( Anyone going to marry you is going to be very lucky says Raihannaji) I find it intersting to sing other languages, though I am sad i cannot understand the lyrics, nor get the pulse of the song. I am still looking for a Tamil teacher, who can teach me Tamil.
