8 April 2008 If it's Aamir Khan, it's interference. From award-winning editors to the most genial spotboy, all claim that he is a control freak AAMIR KHAN is lucky to have so many hits. If he didn't, not many directors would want to work with him. "He is interfering and opinionated," says a trade analyst. "He destroys the confidence of his directors. He interferes in every single department of their film and by the end of it the directors just let him take total control. Didn't Amol Gupte throw in the towel too? It is also because they know he is so great at his job; that he will make a surefire hit as has been his record in the past few years. He is what one calls a control freak." Recently one hears that there are a great deal of 'creative differences' between Aamir and writer-director Abbas Tyrewala of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. The latter is launching his nephew Imraan Khan who is Aamir's sister's son. This will be his directorial debut while the film is being produced by Aamir's production house. The movie was being initially produced by Jhamu Sughand, but things didn't fall into place and Aamir had to rescue his nephew's debut project. Himesh has been replaced and AR Rehman has been signed to compose the music. The film is a romantic comedy in which Aamir may make a surprise appearance. Actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak, Arbaaz Khan and Arshad Warsi will be doing cameos. The movie is Abbas Tyrewala's first directorial venture but he does have to his credit great scripts like Main Hoon Na, Maqbool and Munnabhai MMBS. Telugu actress Genelia D'souza of Tujhe Meri Kasam and Masti fame has been finalised to play the female lead. Manjari who is making her debut in Vikram Bhatt's Mumbai Salsa will also star in Imraan's film. Said she, "Imraan has his own acting style. But, he is very much like his uncle. He studies the details of his character to the T. He is a very sincere and hardworking guy. Aamir visited us on the sets twice or thrice, when we were shooting in Panchgani, as he was shooting his own film Taare Zameen Par there at the same time. He gave guidance and creative inputs to Imraan. They are very supportive of each other. He took part in everything except the direction, which was solely handled by Abbas Tyrewala." The news was encouraging until Aamir completed his Taare Zameen Par. Said the trade analyst," Until Aamir completed and released his film everything was going smooth. It was only after Aamir got free that he began interfering in the film. Of course Imraan is quite happy with this turn of events as he will get the best." Says Abbas, "We will be shooting continuously till the film is complete and hope to release it soon after. It is scheduled for a pre summer release." The movie is supposed to be a love story set in a college campus. Said Imraan, "I would have loved to talk about it, but I've been requested by the producers to keep the details under wraps." Even before his film debut, Imraan has bagged another role in the movie Kidnap that stars Sanjay Dutt in the lead role and is to be directed by Dhoom director Sanjay Gadhvi. Purani Jeans is also on the cards. Tyrewala who has written the story, dialogues, screenplay and the lyrics of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na says, "A lot of people think that we selected Imraan because he was Aamir's nephew. But the fact is that we had gone insane looking for someone who suited the role. Imraan was the only person who suited it perfectly. So even when everything else changed including a lot of the cast and the producer, Imraan stayed constant. This is all before we had the faintest idea that Aamir would produce the project," says Tyrewala. "Aamir has promised me that in terms of my requirements, nothing will suffer. I am happy to believe him. I am not very production savvy. I understand storytelling, I understand cinema but I don't understand money. I completely trust him on money." Hope Abbas has enough trust in Aamir not to be usurped as the director! -- regards, Vithur Whatever God wants to give, no one can deny; Whatever God wants to deny, no one can give. Be happy always
