A million haunting tunes... Which ones your favourite? A Chennai Times and TNS
Global poll figures out the citys fave Rahman numbers
How do you pick one best song among Rahmans many gems? Chennai Times, with
research agency TNS Global, gave a list of Rahmans top songs to hundreds of
Chennaiites to pick their favourite numbers. The lovely duet from Duet - Anjali
Anjali - was the overwhelming favourite and voted the most favourite number. "I
listen to Anjali whenever I miss my girlfriend who stays in a different city
it is a beautiful number," said one of the respondents. Among the fast songs,
Humma Humma from the film Bombay topped the list. "Though Sonali Bendre was the
main attraction of this song, it is the song's tempo that has made it so
popular," said another of the respondents, "Rahman singing it himself added
more value to the song. I cannot think of a better singer for that kind of
song." Hariharan's haunting melody from Bombay - Uyire Uyire - came second.
Interestingly, songs that give the good ol' feeling such as Chinna Chinna
Aasai and Urvasi were pushed to the second half of the list. The song from his
famous album - Vande Mataram - just managed to make it to the 14th place.
Chennaiites seemed to prefer the soft and slow numbers of the musical
genius, which probably explains the fact that eight of the top ten songs are
Rahman's melodies.
