Bollywood music directors are coming together to fight for their rights and profit shares. As of today, the music rights lie with the producer of the film and very few music directors actually get into profit sharing. But not anymore.
As reported by Mumbai Mirror, composers and music directors are waking up to the fact that they have no rights to their creations. While they slog it out in studios, producers everywhere are raking in the fruit of their hard work. Says a source, "This was definitely coming. When international singers like Madonna and Michael Jackson release an album, they are entitled to royalty. But it is not so in India except in case of A R Rahman and Himesh Reshammiya. All music composers have welcomed this move." According to Anu Malik, "Music composers have definitely joined hands to fight for their rights. But right now, I cannot reveal much. Like A R Rahman, who takes the publishing right of his creations, other music composers are also following suit. Producers earn a huge amount of money from ring tones, which should ideally be shared between the producer, music company and the composer." http://www.buzz18.com/news/music/composers-fight-for-their-share/71911/0 Naveen
