RK :- That's a very memorable and an excitable experience. When I was working as an Asst Director, at that time, Illayaraja Sir was in peak, and everyone had a burning desire to meet him, and sit for his compositions. Everyone used to dream of working with Illayaraja, and do a film. At that time, Rahman had come out with Roja, and everyone was talking about it. The music was totally different, and everyone was telling, a small boy had come up with such music. That film became a big hit, and his entry was big, and washed out all other people. >From that time, I had a burning desire to be part of Rahman Sir 's >compositions. During my earlier time, I silently used to go and sit off in >Illayaraja 's compositions, and he used to stare at me.. First and foremost, I met Rahman Sir, during Muthu Film time. Myself, Rahman Sir, Director K.S. Ravikumar, Rajni Sir, Thenappan, Vairamuthu went to Cochin, and took a room there in a Hotel. Rahman Sir was in the adjacent room. Rajni Sir came just for the composing of the music, and he has lots of love for Rahman Sir. We four members would be staying in a room, and Rahman Sir would alone stay in another room. He would come and participate in some discussions in the day, and when we were asleep in the night, he used to play some sounds in his keyboard. I used to silently sneak out to hear them. Next day, he used to play something and show it to everyone. I didn't have any knowledge on Charanam or pallavi, but our director used to have some feel about the same. When Rajni Sir used to ask " Enna pa. What is this ?. what is that ?". Rahman Sir used to answer, " Don't worry. Pls wait and everything would come out fine". And everyone knows how great a hit the film Muthu was. From that time, the fear of Rahman Sir used to reduce in me, as he used to behave in a very simple manner all the time. Once , when I went to the studio at night, I could see Director Subhash Ghai sleeping in a corner, and in another corner was Dir. Shankar. Everyone sleeping in a corner, and I used to feel, " OMG. I have come to a very big place. I need to be careful". Rahman sir used to keep working late night inside the studio, with his tunes. I had lot of experiences with Rahman Sir , while working for Muthu. Interesting Incident with Rahman One song was supposed to be shot in Mysore. They were supposed to give me the song, and I was supposed to take it to Mysore. So Director told me to come in the next flight. The same night, when I went to Rahman Sir, he told me to wait. I was sitting there, and he was doing something out there. He went off upstairs after night 1 AM , for doing Namaz. He didn't return for about 90 minutes, and so, I slept off in the sofa kept nearby. So, Rahman Sir having composed, the song, made everything ready, and told his people to give it to me before 4 AM. Suddenly, I woke up and saw no one present in the Studio, and I was afraid that the Director would scold me for getting it late. I was fear struck, that the crew would scold me if I don't get the song the next day, and to my utter surprise, saw Rahman Sir sleeping just below me. I had a doubt , if it was Rahman Sir himself. It was a great shock to me. Slowly and stealthily, I went and opened the door, and there was a person by name Sukumar, who told, that everything was ready and that I can leave. Fav Songs If you keep sweet at an end, and any hot substance at another, or sour substance at another, we can select the sweet alone and say, we like them. But, as far as Rahman Sir songs are concerned, everything is sweet, and its tough to make a choice . But recently, amongst the mother songs, that he had done, the song in New, for S.J. Suryah. ( Its very strange to see a song like this in S.J. Suryah 's film. ). " Kaalayil Dhinamum Kan Vizhitaal". He has lot of devotion towards his mother. He is a Mother devotee.
