NEW DELHI: Doordarshan is launching a music-based reality show The Big Band.
The show is produced by Phat Phish, an intergraded entertainment and
communications company.

Hosted by music director A R Rahman, the reality show is scheduled to go on
air in the first week of December this year.

Says Phat Phish chairman Anand Surapur, "We think the timing is right for
people to be exposed to a wider choice. There is an unbelievable amount of
talent available and it is just a matter of bringing it out, nurturing it
and presenting it to be recognised."

The winner band will get a three-year recording contract with Phat Phish
Records which includes end-to-end artist management up to three albums and
six music videos, tours and concerts on the national and international stage
as well as cash prize worth Rs 10 million.

Unlike most of the music-based reality show which looks for one 'Unique'
voice, The Big Band will look for a music band.

In order to participate, bands must have between 2-10 members with at least
one lead singer and must submit three tunes. The first tune has to be an
original interpretation of a popular Bollywood, folk or regional piece.

The second tune has to be based on the band's interpretation of A R Raman's
especially composed melody for the show which will be released on 24
October. In addition, the bands will also have to submit one of their
original compositions.

Further short listed bands will be invited to the first stage of audition
where they will be asked to perform any of the three pieces by the judges
