Good Coverage Vithur, Very Nice to read .Thnks. I could see the progression of
rahman from his words. From the "maanoothu mandayile" times to Slumdog . From
the times where Bharatiraja doubted whether rahman can do a particualr genre to
a time where he has proved in  all the genres. From the times there were this
new bunch of fans like us who claimed rahman in the colleges. Now the world is
claiming him.

Pray ,Rahman is still accessible to the likes of bharati raja, shyam benegel
who i am not sure howmuch commenrcial they can afford ,How well they Picturize
the songs in their movies, but are very good at extracting good music from
rahman.

Thanks
Jamshid

Director Bharathiraaja in Rahmania - Part 2

" I had lots of interest towards Painting, and even from my school days, I used
to paint a lot. Have won a lot of prizes from school days. My frame taste
started off from there. I did my schooling and my background is very normal.
Everything is God's Gift, that I was able to rise myself in society.

Q :- How did you develop interest towards Music ?

Ans :- Frankly speaking, I didnt know anything about Music. I can adore good
music and enjoy it. I can select whichever I like and want . Illayaraja used to
give a guitar to me and ask me to play it. I used to fiddle with it, and try to
get some sounds out of it. I used to like the sounds out of it, but didnt want
to get myself into it. But I can find out what tune Raja used to compose. The
same situation with Rahman also, but with Rahman, its very difficult to find
out what tune he is putting. Frankly speaking with Illayaraja, we can find out
something that he is doing, with the Harmonium. With Rahman, we cannot
understand anything, but when it comes out as an end product, it comes out
superbly. Its very tough to understand what he is doing.

Kadu Potta Kaadu - I am very proud and it is RAHMAN alone who has got so much
of praises for Tamilnadu as a musician. I have spent lot of timings with him,
and hence I address him in singular. ( People who are hearing the show, Pls
dont take me otherwise). In that particular song, he wanted that voice of mine,
and I feel very proud for it. I used to say that if I sing, it would be like a
buffalo voice, as it is so sturdy and thick. Its my good fortune to have sung
in the music of Rahman. Bharathiraaja has sung in the music of world renowned
musician, which is  great blessing.

If I started singing before, Illayaraja used to run off. If Illayaraja was very
bored and wanted to pull my legs, he would ask me to sing, and everybody used
to run off from there.

I like Illayaraja, and so whatever he used to compose, I used to like.
Sometimes, I used to tell him, " Why this, why that/". He used to say, " Hey.
You dont know.". When he composes something, there is no alternative. The same
thing exists with Rahman also. They are little choosy about that. So, I dont
want to interfere with them, as I dont have that much of knowledge.

Raja used to tell me that his music sits perfectly in my movie. I used to sit
for all editing sessions and edit it accordingly.

With Rahman also, the same thing, I used to tell him, " I dont want anything.
you give some sound. I will tell you the situation". Porale Ponnuthayi is
unbelievable. Usually, I dont leave any work with anyone with faith. Rahman
used to tell me to go and that he would send a perfect score later. During
Karuthamma shooting in progress, I am getting the cassette. Upon hearing the
song, i started crying. Both Illayaraja and rahman perfectly know what I need.

Kizhakku Cheemayile - When I called upon Rahman and narrated the story, I had
the doubt if he understood it or not. He is a city based boy. He was nodding
his head continuosly. The story is a folk type one, and I also started
wondering if he was just nodding to pretend before me. That time, he had just
finished Roja. I had a big doubt, if he could do a folk type musical. The first
song rhythm that he gave me was that " Manootu Mandayile". I observed that he
has seen all my previous movies. ( Raihanna tells that their mother used to
take both of them for his movies ). I got shocked hearing that song. I started
wondering as to how a man can compose such a beautiful folk tune, and I merged
myself with the movie. His Re Recording style is entirely different. He would
compose everything and would fit it in at places. He would see the reel, and
would compose it in his own , and he has perfect wisdom in it. REALLY GREAT.

( Actually, he wanted to go to Ajmer when doing this movie , during that time )

His mother came at early hours, and requested me to hand over her son to her.
The next day is release, and it has to go for sound mixing. Mother was telling
me that they had planned to go to Ajmer Dargah. I asked Rahman, as to why he
didnt tell him that. He will never talk unncessarily. Always a smile is the
answer. He told me that it was long due for him to go. I asked, if he found
this to be the time to go. The music was to release the next day, and he called
upon his assistants and told them , that the sound was here and to finish it
up.

For Rahman, it is God, Devotion, Spirituality which is first always. Everything
else will rank second.

I got 7 times National awards. But I dont keep any award with me, as I dont
believe in it. I just have the Padmashree Award with me. I remember the claps
and the happenings of the awards, and it motivated us at that time.

At one phase of time, Rahman was a person who was reachable to me, and within
my immediate reach. But present day Rahman is a person, who is beyond my hands
and who is really BIG. There is no entertainment in his life without music. In
today's world, Rahman's Music is not a normal thing. I just cant talk about a
person who has become so big and grand. More than a music director, I love him
so much. ( like my own brother). According to me, he is a cute kid who loves to
play pranks, but very lovable.

AUDIO FILES WOULD BE UPLOADED SOON. A MUST LISTEN FOR TAMIL KNOWING FANS
