Text:
International singer Rihanna might be among the many musicians and
singers who are paying tribute to the victims of the Mumbai terror attack –
the buzz is that she might be in India on Jan 26 to perform a peace song
that's part of composer Aadesh Shrivastava's anti-terror
album<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India_Buzz/A_song_for_Mumbai/articleshow/3874854.cms#>.
Aadesh hopes that Rihanna "will not only sing the peace song, but will also
perform with all of us for the president". The rest of the musical
community, in many ways, is also trying to do just that, in different ways.
Violinist L Subramaniam and
vocalist<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India_Buzz/A_song_for_Mumbai/articleshow/3874854.cms#>Kavita
Krishnamoorthy are going to hold a concert. International band Jethro
Tull<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India_Buzz/A_song_for_Mumbai/articleshow/3874854.cms#>and
sitar exponent Anoushka Shankar, who performed in India, including in
Mumbai, dedicated their tour to the Mumbai terror attack victims. Ian
Anderson, the vocalist for Jethro Tull, had said at his Delhi concert, "We
will go back to Mumbai for a benefit concert to help the victims..." and
they did!
Rahman has teamed up with percussionist Sivamani for song Jiya Se Jiya.
'Bina dor ke patang, ek doosre ke sang, jud gaya – jiya se jiya' go the

the song, spreading the message of "embracing everyone irrespective of
their religion, region or language", says Rahman.
Talking about his album, Aadesh says, "Talks are going on and we are getting
very positive responses from both Rihanna and Justin Timberlake. With
Rihanna, it's almost settled, only some paperwork needs to be done. Justin
is a little busy but will get back to us soon." The English
songs<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India_Buzz/A_song_for_Mumbai/articleshow/3874854.cms#>for
the four-song album will be penned by Zoya Akhtar. Ustad Rashid Khan
will sing the Hindi tracks, besides Aadesh himself. Wendy Parr, the lyricist
for Slumdog Millionaire, has also been roped in for a couple of tracks.
Soch, a collective of musicians like Vasundhara Das, Sunidhi Chauhan and
Shruthi, also created some tracks to criticise the Mumbai attack. Shibani
Kashyap is also spreading the message of hope and love through her song
Alvidaa. "The song is basically about the innocent lives that were lost and
a tribute to all of them. This is a song to motivate all those who have been
hurt in any way by the Mumbai attack," Shibani says. She also sounds hopeful
about the future and the public awakening that has followed the attacks.
"The song is also about all those people who have finally woken up and are
making their displeasure heard. It is a song to motivate people to not let
things be."
