We heard quite a few soul-stirring songs this year. Here we list 10 of them 10. ‘Guzarish’ — Ghajini (Sonu Niigam and Javed Ali) >From the latest Aamir Khan movie, comes a song that is a real gem in itself. >Guzarish is a beautiful soft song that effortlessly mixes Indian tunes with a >touch of opera. Sonu Niigam packs a punch with his singing, A R Rahman carries >his signature boldly and the lyrics are soul-stirring. The tune rises and >falls unexpectedly, making the song a very intriguing listening. 9. ‘Teri ore’ — Singh is Kinng (Shreya Goshal and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan) Teri ore was one of the sweetest songs to hit the music racks this year; and this Pritam-composed number was accepted warmly by everyone, especially since it appeared in the middle of a boisterous film. The song treads on the premise of soft melody and relies heavily on Shreya Goshal dulcet vocals while Rahat sings a powerful interlude. 8. ‘Zara si’ — Jannat (KK) Zara si was one of the most romantic songs of the year and became an instant favourite amongst the young at heart. The song has a soft rock feeling to it; and was easy on the ears. It sounded like a typical Emraan Hashmi number and was instantly recognisable. Jannat had a couple of Pritam songs that went on to garner fans; the other being Haan tu hain. 7. ‘Kehne ko jashn-e-bahara’ — Jodha Akbar (Javed Ali) Jodha Akbar needed songs that sounded like they belonged to a previous era and Jashn-e-bahara did full justice to the requirement. With beautiful string instruments strumming their way to glory, accompanied by other classical instruments, the song tells the tale of longing that Akbar experienced for his beloved Queen Jodha; and the melodious voices and flowery lyrics all hark to a heady romance. 6. ‘Mar jawaan’ — Fashion (Shruti Pathak and Salim Merchant) The Salim Suleiman composed song starts of with a very smooth tune before blissfully slipping into beautiful lyrics. The new-age music is easy on the ears. The song, though, slips into neutral gear after a couple of minutes with repetitive verses. Well, that does not take away the charm of the song as it is one of the finest pieces of fusion music in recent times. 5. ‘Haule haule’ — Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (Sukhwinder Singh) The song that kicked off the Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi promotions and drew in the crowds was Haule haule. The beautiful song has become dear to many with its sweet lyrics and Sukhwinder Singh’s voice. There is a certain old world charm to the Salim Suleiman composed song fused with modern beats. No wonder the song is a chart topper across India. 4. ‘Pehli nazar’ — Race (Atif Aslam) Pehli Nazar is a beautiful all-out romantic song that strums the heart, evoking the familiar feelings of love and longing. Controversies notwithstanding, the song managed to attract enough attention to be amongst the top soulful numbers of the year. The song has a hint of soft rock but effortlessly blends different genres into a piece worth listening to. 3. ‘Khuda jaane’ — Bachna Ae Haseeno (Shilpa Rao and KK) Yash Raj Films has always placed that special emphasis on songs, churning out chartbusting soundtracks for all their movies. Such a movie was Bachna Ae Haseeno. Khuda jaane makes its presence felt from the very start and rolls well into the higher notes and gentler interludes. Shilpa Rao and KK spun magic with their voices. The lyrics are simple enough to follow and complicated enough to keep you listening through the song. 2. ‘Jaane kyun’ — Dostana (Vishal-Shekhar) Jaane kyun is a youthful song that gets you going from the first note! The song exudes oodles of euphoria and has been an instant hit. This Vishal Shekhar-composed song makes you just tap your feet and smile! The smooth flow of melody combines powerful Broadway-style instrumentation with Hindi lyrics and English interludes. And the Top Soul-Stirring Song this year, is: 1. ‘Kabhi kabhi Aditi’ — Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (Rashid Ali) Kabhi kabhi Aditi became an instant hit as soon as it hit the airwaves. The youthful song speaks of friendship and is not one of the run-of-the-mill love songs. The A R Rahman song is relatively fast paced, but soft enough and very ‘hum-mable’. Rashid Ali has sung the song well, creating the flavour that promises to stick around for some time to come! http://www.sakaaltimes.com/2008/12/27165307/2008-songs-of-innocence-and-e.html
