Caught hold of some half a dozen newspapers..couldnt read all, would share as i
do..Here are some..

--------------
Rahman's Mother : My son looked so tall, holding his own among all those
foreigners.[Deccan,Chennai]

Rakesh Mehra : Remove the music, the film(sdm) would lose its energy. Although
set in poverty slumdog talks about hope. Rahman is the first star after
satyajit ray to have done us proud. We have to celebrate this moment-we should
not lose it by saying it is a british film. Only cynics will say such things.
[TOI,Chennai]

Parsoon Joshi - I'm Thrilled. Many years ago, Rahman showed us there's nothing
like south indian or north indian music. Today, He's proved there's no
difference between the East and the West.Good work is recognised
everywhere.[TOI,Chennai]

Subash Ghai : I was sure Rahman would win an oscar. His ability to fuse Indian
and western music is magical, it touches even the soul of a child.[TOI,Chennai]

Ashutosh Gowerieker : I love the background music--It's electric , captivating
abd brings out the dilemma of the characters.[TOI,Chennai]

Vishal Dadlani - His confluence of Indian and Western sounds is sure to go
global now.The world had to wake up to the talent that this man has. It was
inevitable. To have what are essentially Indian songs and sounds in an English
film speaks volumes of the confluence in Rahman's music,When you see it in the
film, it dawns that the music is neither Indian nor Western, and that I think
is the key to making it global. He has managed to merge the two without losing
out on the magic. [Reuters]

Kollywood :  All from Deccan Chr

Ajith[Actor] - I am for for A.R Rahman who has made all of us proud. I wish him
and his family all success and prosperity for his future acheivments.

Madhavan[Actor]- After i heard the news, I was very happy and felt really
proud. I have done three films with him and it has been great. All his works
till date have been outstanding and I think this win would definetly encourage
other indian musicians to explore further though a rahman  like person is yet
to enter the indian music industry.

Shruti Hasan[musician] - I am very excited and it's a really proud moment for
artistes in india.Ofcourse it's not the most important thing to prove anything
outside the country, but he's done the both and that's great.

Vidyasagar[Music director] - Like everything 'first' has its own value. A.R
Rahman being the first indian has made all indians proud. I am extremley happy
that someone from our faternity has won this prestigeous award. I wish him all
the very best in life.

Suchitra[RJ&Singer] - These are such bleak, low times with the
recession, essential supplies under thread, satyam collapsing that this news
comes as a beacon of light and not just a ray. Rahman is a phenomenon that
people all over the globe will now get to experience and enjoy. We are just
luck that he lives a few streets away.

Blaaze : A.R Rahman is a blessing to the music industry and also to all of
us.It was a great experience to work with him on Sdm. All my respect for the
one in a billion

Chinmayee - A.R Rahman has been a number one musician for so many years. This is
just added to the glory. Now I am just waiting for oscars.

GV Prakash : When I realised he is the first indian to win this award, it made
me even more proud of being an indian

Naresh Iyer - He has always been a path breaker from the start. This is yet
another example. I feel this is just the beginning. Undoubtedly He has made all
of us proud. I really feel honoured to have worked with him.

Subah Mudgal :

I am very delighted that Rahman got this award. And with so many ideas coming
up in the country, the reach of Indian films is becoming huge. However, a film
should be marketed well to make its presence felt in the international arena. I
have not still worked with him but think he deserves it,

Vashundara Das :

Look at his compositions. From regional to typical Bollywood and Western, he
has done it all. He is a master of all kinds of music. My best wishes to him
for the Oscars

Shankar Mahadevan :
He will not stop here. I am sure he will win an Oscar too. He has put Indian
music on top of the world. From here the future looks good and Rahman is solely
responsible,

Sukhwinder Singh :

Many of Rahman's compositions are better than any international track. He
deserved this honour long back

Lata Mangeshkar: He deserves every bit. I have worked with the best, but when I
first sang for Rahman, I knew he had an unique style. That was for Dil Se,
after which I did Lagaan, Rang de Basanti and few more for him. I like his
orchestration. He keeps his music simple and expressive. My favourite Rahman
song is Jiya Jale.. from Dil Se, which I sang for him.

Asha Bhonsle: He has made all of us proud. I first worked with him in Rangeela
and saw the spark in him. He always said he wanted to go international with his
music. He focussed only on work to realise his dream. I told him during Taal
that someday he is gong to make us all proud at an international platform.
Before leaving for the Golden Globe he reminded me of my prophecy.

Music director Pritam said he was overjoyed to hear the news about Rahman's
success. "Rahman is the best. He has made India proud,"

Jackie Shroff : "Rahman's win is special. India deserves to be on the top. Such
an honour is never too late."

Monty sharma : 'it is a great achievement indeed for India and Indian music. I
have been and am a big fan of A R Rahman. He genuinely deserves every bit of
name, fame and success he is getting. I wish him luck and best wishes from the
bottom of my heart

Ramesh Vinayakam: He is an inspiration for musicians like us. He is a great
human being and is sure to win many more honors. The Golden Globe is almost
like an Oscar. I wish him all the best.

S. J. Suryah: I have worked with him in many films before. When he went to the
USA for the Award Ceremony a week ago, I wished him well and hoped he wins the
award. It has come true. Being a Tamilian, I am all the more proud with his
achievement. Allah Rakha Rahman is a national treasure now.

Pa Vijay (lyricist): All the very best to Rahman. He has made every Indian and
every Tamilian proud. It is a jewel in the crown of Tamil film history. He is a
master craftsman
