            Hi,
I saw this article yesterday, and posted a comment on that post yesterday
itself...

"Do Aankhen Baarah Haath" won a Samuel Goldwyn Writing Award (SGWA).  As per my
understanding, Samuel Goldwyn Writing Award is not a Golden Globe Award. It is
just an award that is presented on the same evening on the same stage...
Just because it used to be presented at Golden Globes event, I dont thik it can
be called as a Golden Globe award. So, technically ARR is the first Indian to
win GG, IMO!

This IMDB page (http://www.imdb. com/Sections/ Awards/Golden_ Globes_USA/
awards_summary) lists all the awards that are presented in the Golden Globe
evening. In that list, it shows
"Golden Globe", "Silver Globe", "Samuel Goldwyn Award" among others. SGWA is
not listed as a GG, but is shown as a separate category! So, as per this, SGWA
is not a Golden Globe!

Any comments?

I am honestly sick and tired for the entire industry drooling over AR Rahman.
His achievement is nothing short of great, but lets not take away the
achievements India has had in the past. Frankly, I am disgusted at the fact
that most of the Indian media doesn't even bother to check its facts before
printing the news. It is disrespectful, inappropriate, and frankly quite
insulting to Mr. Rahman as well.
The first Indian to win a Golden Globe was the Producer/Director Mr. V.
Shantaram, for "Do Ankhen Barah Haath" which won the Golden Globe, for the
special Samuel Goldwyn Award in the year 1959. V. Shantaram is one of the most
highly regarded directors in the history of Indian cinema. He was not only a
master craftsman and technological innovator, but also an artist of conscience
who dedicated himself to using the film arts as a means to further social
causes. is one of the most highly regarded directors in the history of Indian
cinema. Yes, we have made films of that caliber way back in 1959 - something
that Aamir Khan has been trying very hard to achieve.
So please lets stop the nonsense of "first Indian to win a Golden Globe", and
just appreciate Mr. Rahman for bringing such honor to the film industry.
