Minor quibble: though not glamorous enough, the first Indian to win a
competitive Oscar was Bhanu Athaiya (shared) for the very film
mentioned in the article: "Gandhi". Most people do not seem to know
this, which is pardonable unless one is writing for "India's national
newspaper".
