Surat's band of underdogs ecstatic

SURAT: Shouts of joy and banging of

out of an apartment in Piplod as the news of AR Rahman's nomination
for
the Oscars came on Thursday evening. On the eve of the release of Slumdog
Millionaire across India, there were shouts of 'Jai ho'.
Band of Brothers, run by nine brothers from the city, have just recorded two
songs with Rahman for a Telugu music album which will be released within a
month.
"It feels as if we won the Golden Globe

now we are gunning for an Oscar. Rahman is so good that he is certain
to
win," says Wilson Samuel, 26, the drummer.
The brothers, whose age ranges from 23 to 32 years, take music lessons for a
living. The band won a music competition in 2007 judged by Rahman and they
got their promised assignment with Rahman as the prize.

Ledu Bhavam Ledu (no music no feelings) composed by the band won the
first prize. Rahman recomposed the song, which was dedicated to Hyderabad
blasts' victims.
"We recorded the songs with Rahman in his studio at his Chennai residence
couple of months ago and the album is likely to be released within a month,"
says Wilson.
The brothers came to Surat in search of employment. The brothers are
graduates but music is their passion. "My father was a good singer and
mother, a classical dancer," says Wilson.
