Renowned percussionist Sivamani recently launched his first ever album
‘Mahaleela’. The album is his tribute to the doyens of music he has played
alongside. In his words it is “A grateful offering to the Almighty for blessing
me and to mark my 35 years in the music industry.”
The album brings a mix of instrumental and vocal songs. It is Sivamani’s
first-ever album in his entire career. The album also marks the launch of his
music label KKVM. It has 12 tracks enthusiastic to poignant moments of his
life. The genesis of this album has its roots in an event where he lost all his
music during a concert. Two years ago, he somehow overcame that loss and set
his mind at capturing some of the priceless music that he had.
Zakir Husain, Viku Vinayak Ram, Louis Banks, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan,
Niladri Kumar, Naveen Kumar on the flute, Harmeet on keyboards and Steven
Babloo have been his guiding force in the film. Amongst the singers are Alma
from Bosnia, Lomajin from Mongolia and Shankar Mahadevan. There are tracks
dedicated to Zakir Husain’s father and Sivamani’s guru Kriya Babaji.
