I agree with Vithur that ARR has "reacted" (can he ever react? :-) )
very humbly, a characteristic of him.

I hope people realize that there are places where silence becomes a sin,
an injustice. Poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar has wrote:

Samar Shesh Hai, Nahin Paap Ka Bhaagi Kewal Vyaadh
Jo Tatasth Hain Samay Likhega Unka Bhi Apradh.
(When a war is being waged between justice and injustice, the hunters
and killers are not the only sinners, but those who remain neutral at
such crucial point would also be held guilty in the due course of time.)

SDM and Danny are being beaten disproportionately, way beyond their
deeds. Danny showed an ugly truth which become uncomfortable to some,
and the coverage his film got brought jealousy to several, and they all
started hitting him and the film.

The point here was whether ARR could maintain silence and let Danny and
SDB be targetted like this.

See the contrast. Even the author of the novel, deserted Danny at the
first hint of a trouble. When the title of the film was questioned and a
law suit was filed, the author was in Jaipur to attend an international
seminar. and, I was surprised, that he said that it was "unfortunate"
that the film carried the title slumdog. He said that he has nothing to
do with this title because he had titled his novel as "Q&A".

Can you see how thankless, nashuqra, selfish this author is. Nobody knew
him or his two bit novel. Danny making movie on it made the novel and
the author an international celebrity, plus the royalty all this must
have brought to the author, and he had the dirty guts to distance
himself from the film and from Danny. It is a Ditch, a let down.

ARR could have remained silent as his nature is, or he could have said
that he just composed the music for the film sitting in Chennai and he
has nothing to do with the title or story or dialogs or actors or
locations or acting, or anything other than music.

But, ARR didn't do that. ARR rather came out vocally and stood by Danny
and the entire film. He is sort of saying that the film is a team work
and everybody should share the praises and the brickbats for it.

By speaking out, ARR made a rare exception for Danny who is now his friend.

My respect for ARR has grown by his these comments, even though, as you
rightly said, this is so uncharacteristic of our man to speak out. Our
man is friend's friend, is thankful by nature, can be relied when needed.
