MUMBAI: Shemaroo Entertainment has acquired the home video rights of Fox Star
Studios' Slumdog
Millionaire and Slumdog Crorepati for Rs 15 million (Rs 1.50 crores).
When contacted by Businessofcinema.com, Shemaroo Entertainment director Hiren
Gada refused to
confirm the development. Fox Star Studios officials also remained unavailable
for comment at
the time of filing this story. However, sources inform that the deal is in its
final stages of
being signed.
The home video will be launched in India by Shemaroo on 31 March, 2009 to
coincide with the
movie's worldwide release on home video.
A source close to the development says, "Since Slumdog Millionaire has been
heavily pirated its
official home video will be packaged with value added content in order to lure
customers into
buying it. The content will have to be packaged and marketed very
intelligently. This movie is
a collector's item."
As was first reported by Businessofcinema.com, the satellite rights of the
Danny Boyle directed
movie, were acquired by Sony Max (Slumdog Crorepati) and Sony Pix (Slumdog
Millionaire) for
approximately Rs 40 - 50 million (Rs 4 -5 crores).
