Awards and more awards:

One of the biggest awards nights of the season took place last night on
either side of the planet. Leading the way was the British Academy Film
Awards, which saw a host of British and Hollywood stars gather at the Royal
Opera House in Covent Garden for a night which saw Danny Boyle's *Slumdog
Millionaire* steal seven BAFTA masks, including the awards for direction and
film of the year. The film's composer/songwriter A.R. Rahman took home the
'Anthony Asquith Award for Achievement in Music', his second major prize for
the film's music – following a Golden Globe win in January. Rahman thanked
those who had introduced him to Western audiences – including Andrew Lloyd
Webber, who brought him to the West End for *Bombay Dreams* - and his fans
all over the world. The Indian composer beat Alexandre Desplat, Hans Zimmer
& James Newton Howard, Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus and Thomas Newman to
the top spot.
