Film Score Monthly doesn't have much nice things to say about SdM. They goof
around a bit in the latest issue with the editorial beginning as-
"With A.R. Rahman marching toward his inevitable Best Score Oscar, I thought it
might be fun to pretend Slumdog Millionaire didn’t exist and instead consider
the other four nominees...
Now all four will have the privilege of simultaneously losing
yet again."
"In fact, if Slumdog Millionaire were to lose Best Score to any of the other
four nominees,
it would arguably be the greatest surprise/upset in the history of the category.
I’m not sure how or why that makes any sense, but it does. (*If Slumdog
Millionaire does not win the Best Score Oscar, I promise not to criticize the
Academy Music Branch in any way shape or form for three years.)"
There's also a round-up of the Oscar nominees by Cary Wong who says on SdM-
"...this is the movie, like its titular hero, that has captured the imagination
of Post-Barack Obama America...
Overrated movie and score, in my opinion. Only the song, “Jai Ho” stood out as
worthy for any musical nomination, since it ended the film in a memorable way"
"The music is infectious and buoys the movie along, but with only about 13
minutes of actual score, and songs dominating the most of movie, it may be
Babel over again, with the Academy giving the award to Best Score to memorable
moments that were neither original nor underscore. But, there is a minor
problem that could prevent Slumdog from winning Best Song as well: there are
two nominees, and the votes may be split"
