Rawat: The "kill him", "slice him" cries are NOT staple in these shows where the SDM stars have been featured. The cries you speak of are more common to the off-primetime talk shows like the one from Jerry Springer where the featured guests are not stars, but are people from the street who want to dry their dirty linen in public.
Rahman's (and Frieda Pinto's) appearance is something that was probably arranged as part of the SDM publicity. The SDM stars have only appeared in primetime talks shows like David Letterman's, Jon Stewart's and the morning shows like Today Show and Regis & Kelly. These shows are essentially fluff pieces intended NOT to raise gossip but for artistes to drum up support for their work from the audiences and the media. They are an essential part of any movie's publicity. The appearances are very humorous (without being snarky) and thought provoking sometimes. The artistes come in, get introduced by way of a couple of questions. Then the host asks them about the current work and their previous work and future plans. The visit mostly ends with a clipping from the movie (or a performance by the guest). So if anything, this will get added buzz going for the SdM team! I wish the Lagaan team had the resources to do something like this, because publicity like this is what gets you to the top of the ballot. I did not get to see this Leno episode, but am waiting to watch it here when it will get posted later today (I think): http://www.nbc.com/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/video/episodes/ regards, anantha. --- In [email protected], V S Rawat <vsra...@...> wrote: > > On 2/19/2009 1:11 PM India Time, _Bivin Chandra_ wrote: > > > Mumbai: In yet another instance of the worldwide acclaim garnered by 'Slumdog Millionaire', the movie's music director, Indian maestro A R Rahman is slated to perform live on one of America's most popular late-night talk shows, 'The Tonight Show' with Jay Leno. > > The show, watched by millions worldwide, is considered to be among the definitive platforms for international recognition. > > I somehow think that ARR should wait for one more week before appearing > in such shows. The song list for the episode remains a secret but the maestro is expected to play his Oscar-nominated song 'Jai Ho' from 'Slumdog Millionaire'. > > > > Rahman will be accompanied on the show by the leading lady of the film, Freida Pinto. > > > > > > http://www.indianexpress.com/news/a-r-rahman-to-be-on-jay-leno-show/425194/ > -- Ananthanarayanan K.
