Guys,

Check out the comments below of some people towards Slumdog and its
success. Some are saying Slumdog shouldn't have even been nominated,
one saying that ARR's score is not even mediocre by his own
standards...blah blah blah. I wish people wouldn't be so narrow
minded and blinded by their own biases. Not liking the movie is one
thing, but accusing the movie and music of not deserving any awards is
just snobbery and ignorance.

Anyway, I'm not letting this bother me much. Just want to point out
what some are saying. No matter what others say, the fact is that
both the movie and music have been highly praised, respected, awarded,
and that's what matters. The whole world is celebrating Slumdog and
its success and a few minority dissenters are not going to change that.

People need to understand that you can't judge Slumdog's music like
you judge an Indian movie album. It's not a collection of songs. In
the West, music is judged by how it elevates the narrative, heightens
the emotions and fits within the script. For me, the music of Slumdog
is a complete winner all the way based on that way of judging alone,
nevermind the brilliance of individual tracks like Mausam and Escape
and Latika's theme which are indeed right up there with Rahman's best
anytime and anyplace IMO. Jai Ho and O Saya as individual songs per
se might not be one of Rahman's best "songs" but within the movie,
they really heighten the emotions so powerfully and fit so well with
the script and themes. It takes real craft to do this well and some
people just don't appreciate this (or cannot due to their own narrow
mindedness) And the music had to be a multicultural global blend much
more than an any Indian soundtrack Rahman has ever done simply because
the audience is more global. Wish some people would think before they
react.
