The music legend from Chennai had also composed the Official Champions
League Anthem for the Champions League Twenty20 event.
The anthem attempted to capture the passion and euphoria associated with the
game of cricket and was brought to life by legendary film maker Bharat Bala
in an inspiring video encapsulating the exhilaration of the youth as they
move to its rhythm, celebrating the young and energetic spirit of the game.
The official anthem and film for the inaugural Champions League Twenty20
aims to transfer this euphoria to all its listeners and viewers in such a
way that they themselves become compelled to spread it further.
Lalit Modi, Chairman, Champions League Twenty20 and Vice President, Board of
Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said, ''The Champions League Twenty20
would like to offer its heartfelt congratulations to an Indian legend A R
Rahman for picking up two Oscars. We are indeed proud, as is all of India
for the huge achievement by this maestro. But more so we are even happier
that A R Rahman has been associated with the Champions League Twenty20 and
was responsible for creating the Official Champions League Anthem for us.''
''I am confident that this anthem will reverberate not just in India but
will transcend all language barriers across the global cricket fraternity,''
he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Manu Sawhney, Managing Director, ESPN STAR Sports
and Global Commercial Rights Partner to the Champions League Twenty20, said,
''Our heartiest congratulations to the maestro A R Rahman on this stellar
achievement. His music crosses geographical and cultural boundaries and he
is truly a global songsmith.''
