Rahman- The beacon of music IndiaGlitz [Thursday, February 26, 2009]
It took a lot of hard work for the Mozart of Chennai to get to the pinnacle of success. Now that A.R.Rahman has acquired not one but two Oscar awards, making his homeland feel extremely proud to have given birth to a musical genius, he can concentrate on the fulfillment of his next big dream. The dream to see his K. M. Music Conservatory grow into one of the premiere music teaching institutes contributing significantly to the growth of the budding music makers. The conservatory which was conceived only last year has still a long way to go. Along with offering students several full-time and part-time courses in classical western music taught by the best of teachers from around the world, Rahman has also devised a plan to help the less-privileged kids. To begin with 24 students have been selected from the MGR School run by the Tamilnadu state government for music training. These kids were selected on their interest in music and will be taught violins. The administrative officer of Rahman’s music school, Jyoti Nair Belliappa says that the project which has been devised for the children is a long-term one as the aim is to give them the best training needed to play a symphony in the future. Sometimes the students of K.M.Conservatory are also given opportunities to work with Rahman after they prove their skills in small auditions. http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/hindi/article/45291.html -- regards, Vithur
