A R Rahman – a brilliant composer & true gentleman Nothing succeeds like success. This age-old maxim proved its essence once again when Slumdog Millionaire attained the pinnacle of glory and bagged eight Oscars on a single occasion. However one of the many real heroes has been its composer A R Rahman. He has created history by becoming the first Indian to win two Oscars for the Best Original Score ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and Best Original Song ‘Jai ho’. This has not only made Rahman a true hero back home but has also helped him to win global accolades. What’s more, the success has led him to earn 3 offers from Hollywood. Truly, he is the fitting man, for the moment, who can realize the spirit of this adage.
Well, Rahman is a perfect gentleman who dislikes intensely to conceal something and so he was found to admit the news of offers from Hollywood gladly. He said candidly, “Yeah, I have received 2-3 offers.” However he was not ready to reveal anything more and stated, “Due to the confidentiality in the agreements, I cannot talk about them any further.” But this was a part of his press conference and not the whole one. The Indian press and media was anxiously waiting for the return of this hero. How could they leave him? The press conference was jam-packed naturally and hordes of questions were hurled at him which he tackled with a brilliant maneuver. While speaking on his composition he said, “Jai Ho! Embodies the release of an extra-ordinary energy.” “The music enhanced the film, like the jewel on a beautiful ornament. And it, somehow, also appealed to a western sensibility.” It should be remembered that Rahman made the Tamilians proud by addressing a few words in his maternal language to the audience at the Kodak theatre on Sunday. There was also a question “If the same movie had been shot by an Indian director, would it have won the Oscars?” Rahman answered to this, “Yes, provided the director gets hold of an international distributor, with whom the movie can be sold effectively worldwide.” http://www.littleabout.com/2009/02/27/a-r-rahman-a-brilliant-composer-true-gentleman/ -- regards, Vithur
