While replying on that "ARR not to work for RGV" thread, I thought about treatment of ARR's music by RGV and by various directors.
That brought me to SDM also. And I was surprised that I felt satisfied with the treatment given to our man's music in SDM movie. I was "surprised" because - here was a director who would use a song from one stupid movie (Aaj Ki Raat) in an ARR movie. It was so offending to find that song in ARR movie. - here was a director who would make ARR remix another MD's song (Choli ke Peeche) - here was a director who would have only one Hindi song in the entire movie (Jai Ho) - Even that song was placed unceremoniously at the closing credits. - Even that song was cut - Last stanza was not in the film. - here was a director who would use ARR's songs and instrumental pieces not as a standalone, but as a backdrop on the scene, with all the sounds of various scenes overshadowing ARR's music. - he would use strange lyrics and strange song titles for ARR's songs so that it would be impossible for public to identify and remember the songs. I myself couldn't remember which song/ music was where so I am sure non-ARRfan public would notice even less. so on. and still I felt satisfied at the treatment given to ARR's music in SDM film?????? I felt surprised at myself. And, I thought about it and I found that it is NOT NOT NOT the focus, publicity award that ARR got for this film, that is making me justify the treatment. I have seen the movie 5 times till now and I felt satisfied with the music. In the first view only, I felt that ARR's music is not getting noticeable, but in further viewings I could start noticing and remembering some of the songs and it sounded good enough. I think the first viewing of this movie by me was from the viewpoint of an ARR fan. I wanted only to hear the music and was not really seeing the music. But when I saw the movie as such, I found that the music is playing its minimum necessary role in the film. SDM was not a music centric movie like Yuvvraj was, so it is OK that music is used in pieces. May be, this is the "loss" we ARR fans face that we always see an ARR movie only for ARR songs so we don't care for the remaining movie. -- Rawat
