CD: 'India' Pretty smart of Putumayo World Music to corral a piece by A.R. Rahman for its compilation CD "India" before he won Oscars for "Slumdog Millionaire." Rahman contributes "Tere Bina," the love ballad from the film "Guru," to this 10-cut survey of Indian music. One of the standouts on the CD, "Tere Bina" is beautifully sung by Chinmayee, whose day job is dubbing singing voices for films. Like much of "India," "Tere Bina" doesn't necessarily fit what Westerners think of as Indian music from Bollywood films. Most of the songs, such as "Ganesha," featuring Deepak Ram on the bansuri (Indian flute), and "Zara Zara," with southern Indian singer Bombay Jayashri, are closer to lounge music than the rollicking musical style celebrated in Rahman's Oscar winner "Jai Ho."
