Hi Gopal, ARR's harmonies and melodies are based on various scale systems from the West or raagas from India. There are books on these scales and raagas if you are interested in theory. Learning to play an instrument, as I have, is one of the best ways to learn about scales and raagas. But, even if you don't play, you can still learn and appreciate. ARR's knowledge of Western classical music really aids him in creating mindblowing harmonies, which of course, is part of his genius.
