*After 'Awara Hoon', Russia says 'Jai Ho'*

Moscow (PTI): After Bollywood song 'Awara Hoon' become popular in then
Soviet Union decades ago, music maestro A R Rahman's magic creation 'Jai Ho'
is now resonating in Russian homes.

Russia's state-run Channel 1 TV on Friday night aired the multiple Oscar
winner movie 'Slumdog Millionaire'.

Although the movie was not the product of Bollywood, but millions of TV
watchers across the country, welcomed it as a purely Indian movie.

Russia's popular "Domashny" (Home) TV channel on its initiative to mark the
'Year of India in Russia' screened Raj Kapur's 'Awaara', the first movie
ever screened in Communist Russia from a non-Communist country.

Over the decades the popular hit from the movie "Awaara hoon" became the
hymn to the Indo-Russian friendship, with Soviet-era grown leaders like
ex-President Boris Yeltsin and Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov humming at various
meetings with the visiting Indian leaders.

Even 'Awaara hoon' ring tone is popular among today's Russian youth and
after the screening of Slumdog Millionaire', A R Rehman's 'Jai Ho' is set to
become a popular ring tone for mobile users here.
