Russia's state-run Channel 1 TV on Friday night aired the multiple Oscar winner movie 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Although the movie was not the product of Bollywood, but millions of TV watchers across the country, welcomed it as a purely Indian movie. Russia's popular "Domashny" (Home) TV channel on its initiative to mark the 'Year of India in Russia' screened Raj Kapur's 'Awaara', the first movie ever screened in Communist Russia from a non-Communist country. Over the decades the popular hit from the movie "Awaara hoon" became the hymn to the Indo-Russian friendship, with Soviet-era grown leaders like ex-President Boris Yeltsin and Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov humming at various meetings with the visiting Indian leaders.
