Perfect reply. Like to add-on to say his previous success are stepping stones for his recognition. Because of the success of Roja; he got the option to venture into the bollywood world. Because of his successess in many hindhi movies; he has the option to venture into more international territories periodically. The Oscar is a face-life for our man. Though he has been talked about & published in many articles worldwide; the Oscars & his recent previous Critics Awards, BAFTA & Golden Globe etc... gives him recognition for his achievement. So, it is because of his consistent previous achievements; that he was recommended again, and again, and again to achieve the unbelieveable for an Indian. ________________________________

That's fine. We live in a subjective world. I didn't think it was his best either. But that's the point- he wasn't competing with himself (or rather his other tracks), at this year's Oscars! If we had tracks from Roja, Lagaan or even Thiruda Thiruda in competition with Jai Ho, then I can understand how fans can be disappointed that Jai Ho won over a Mitwa or a Kojam Nilavu or even a Dil se re. But they were not there to compete with Jai Ho. So why fuss about how it's not his best and that's why it should have not got an Oscar - or something in those lines! When one day we have two of Rahman's albums up for nominations at the Oscars, we can moan about why one got it over the other. So save the discussions (and unnecessary disappointment) till then! Also, if Lagaan had won the Oscar for best foreign movie, that would not have got Rahman an Oscar. There is no "Best Music in a Foreign Film" category at the Oscars.Yes, his music would have been part of an Oscar winning movie but A.R.Rahman, the man himself would not have been an Oscar winner. This will apply to all future Indian projects. They will always be classified as "foreign films". So although we'd like Oscars for all our favourite Rahman soundtracks, that ain't going to happen because they have mostly been for "foreign films", in the eyes of the Academy.
