Hi,

My attempt at a much more accurate translation of "munneru thaan pooti" song
from Indira.
Sorry for the delayed reply... didnt have access to my comp for a few days!

("aelaelangadi aeloa" and "thanthanana thaana" have no meaning as such, they
are commonly used in folk songs)

mayilakkaala marudhakkaala manikkayiththula soadi saerum
Oxen from Mayiladuthurai and Madurai will unite under the rope with bells.
(Mayiladuthurai or Mayilai, Madurai - towns in Tamilnadu; Mani-> bell)

veluththakaala sevaththakaala edam valamaa soadi saerum
The white and reddish oxen will form a pair, on left and right (of the plough)
(edam/Idam-> left,  valam-> right)

maari maari pozhiya vaenum...aelaalangadi aelaalam....
boomiththaayi kuliravaenum.. aelaalangadi aelaalam
It should rain well and Mother earth must cool down

vaanam paaththa karisakkaadu...aelaalangadi aelaalam
manasu poala elaga vaenum...aelaalangadi aelaalam
The dry barren land should soften, just like the hearts (of the farmers)

munnaerudhaan pootti...aelaelangadi aeloa
poaravazhi nee kaattu...aelaelangadi aeloa
Fix the forward-plough and show us the way!
(Mun-> forward/front;  aeru-> plough)

pinnaerudhaan pootti...aelaelangadi aeloa
sollikkodu oru paattu...aelaelangadi aeloa
Fix the secondary-plough and then, teach us a song!

ponnaeru pootti...mmm vedha poada vaenum...poada vaenum
We should fix the golden plough, and sow the seeds
(the word "golden" is used figuratively here)

muppogam velanju...mmm pasiyaara vaenum...aara vaenum
We should have 3 good harvests and it should satisfy our hunger
(Mu-> prefix to indicate "three"; pogam/bogam-> each harvest cycle;
they basically want to have 3 harvests in the year)

aelaalangadi aelaalam...aelaalangadi aelaalam
aelaalangadi aelaalam...aelaalangadi aelaalam

thandhaananaa thaanaa...aelaalangadi aelaalam
thaanathannaa thaanaa...aelaalangadi aelaalam
thannanannaa thaanaanaa...aelaalangadi aelaalam
thannanannaa thaanaanaa...aelaalangadi aelaalam
