month!<http://www.glamsham.com/movies/scoops/09/may/19-amu-to-honour-a-r-rahman-next-month-050903.asp>As
was reported a few months back (February to be precise), Aligarh Muslim
University, one of India's most prestigious university, was to grant a
doctorate degree to music maestro, A. R. Rahman, on March 25, during the
annual convocation. The PRO of the university, Rahat Abrar had said, ''We
have decided to celebrate Rahman's Oscar victory by presenting him the
doctorate degree at the upcoming annual convocation, to be organized on the
campus on March 25.''

The decision to award D. Lit (Honoris Causa) was taken by the varsity's
executive council. Other eminent personalities who were to be honoured
included Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata group, Professor M.S. Swaminathan,
father of green revolution and noted Urdu academecian and writer Padma Shri
(2004) and Padma Bhushan (1991), Professor Gopichand Narang .

However, due to the general elections, the annual convocation was postponed
and the new date has been fixed as 7th June 2009, and we have telephonically
confirmed from the PRO of AMU that A. R. Rahman and Professor Gopichand
Narang have given their consent and will therefore be present in Aligarh on
June 7th to take part in the annual convocation.

While Ratan Tata and Professor M. S. Swaminathan are yet to give their
go-ahead, it would indeed be an honour for the literary circle of the
university to come face-to-face with the Oscar winner and music wizard A. R.
Rahman and Professor Narang. And we will make it a point to be there to tell
you all about their visit to the university.
