*Kamini's revelations about Rahman to GC* Kaanchan [July 16, 2009, 11:35:41 PM]
Kamini Mathai, a writer for a reputed Indian daily, has spent the last six years working on her first book. Titled A.R. Rahman – The Musical Storm, the book takes a very objective look at the man, his life and his all-consuming passion for music. Ask her what the most difficult part of writing the book was and pat comes her reply, “Getting information out of A.R. Rahman! Firstly, he is always busy. There is not a day that he does not have work. So catching a few spare moments with him was real tough. And then, getting information out of him was even more difficult! Getting him to answer questions was quite a task! He’s a man of few words. He won’t say much. He’d answer in monosyllables or in just a single line. To get him to talk was real difficult, I’d say!” What inspired her most about the musical genius? “In my career as a journalist, I have met many celebrities and many of them have been simple people. But I must say that I have not met someone of his stature, who is so very grounded and level-headed. In fact, it is this quality of his that I regard as the most inspiring. We all hear about how down-to-earth a person he is, but when you meet him, his simplicity never fails to surprise you,” she exclaims. And Kamini has loads more to say about her very first full-length book, in an exclusive interview for Galatta Cinema’s July issue.
