R.D.Verman!!! and when he could get Sachin Dev Burman right, why couldnt he get 
Rahul Dev Burman?

This is what happens when zero-knowledge people become journos in the
field where they have no grasp! such a poorly written article. Even a

Mumbai: Sampooran Singh Kalra, better known by his pen name Gulzar, is 
celebrating his 73rd Birthday. 



Gulzar, a poet, lyricist and director, is one of the legendary writers of 
Indian Cinema.



Born on August 18, 1936 in Jhelum district (British Rule), has worked
with best musicians of Bollywood. He is best known for his association
with RD Verman and AR Rahman. 



With AR Rahman in 2009, he bagged the Academy Awards for Best Original
Song �Jai Ho' in the film �Slumdog Millionaire'. He became the first
Indian lyricist to bag the Oscars in his kitty.



Apart from this, Gulzar was conferred with Padma Bhushan (2004) and
Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002. He has also a number of National awards
and Filmfare awards in his kitty.



Gulzar's contributions to Indian Cinema is precious and unforgettable. Gulzar 
has written several hit numbers for Hindi cinema. 



He started his Bollywood career under Bimal Roy and Hrishikesh
Mukherjee. Gulzar began his career as a lyricist with Sachin Dev Burman
for the movie �Bandini� (1963). The song "Mora gora ang layle" was a
hit.
