12:03 AM ETWith three nominations, one for best score and two for its songs, 
"Slumdog Millionaire," leads the competition for the ninth annual World 
Soundtrack Awards. Winners will be announced Oct. 17 at the closing night of 
the 36th Ghent International Film Festival.

The awards also will feature performances by composers Alexandre Desplat and 
Marvin Hamlisch, who will be the guest of honor and recipient of the World 
Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Hamlisch will perform and conduct selected suites from some of his most famous 
scores, including "The Way We Were," "A Chorus Line" and "Sophie's Choice." 

Desplat will will offer up suites from his films "The Girl With the Pearl 
Earring," "The Queen," "Lust/Caution" and "The Painted Veil."

2008 Discovery Award winner Mark Streitenfeld will be on hand as the Brussels 
Philharmonic will perform music from his films "American Gangster" and "Body of 
Lies."
