In both Aaj Dil and Rehnuma, Rahman is coming up with some very unusual and inventive chord progressions that create these incredible hooks in both songs!!! WOW!!! Both songs offer so much interesting music in so many dimensions that it's hard to keep up with as you're listening. And that too the sound is so clear and crisp!! Awesome variations in Aaj Dil with the chords and melody lines.
In Aaj Dil, also, there is a beautiful crisp, mallot/xylophone type instrument being sprinkled in the background during the antara parts, right next to the staccato piano bits and electronic beep runs that create this beautiful soundscape!!! The percussions in Aaj Dil are multilayered too..congos with ride symbols along with strumming guitar, bass, keyboard taps, tambarine, and maracas. To me, all sounds and instruments are neatly separated and crisp.
